Is Skype no longer supported on Windows XP? If so, will older versions of Skype still work? Which newest “old” version of Skype would work on Windows XP?
- Now that Microsoft has ended support for Windows XP, I think this question is irrelevant. If you have not upgraded to Windows 7 I would highly recommend it. Do not mistake my 'upgrade' advice to upgrade to Windows 8. Just go to Windows 7 and let Microsoft fix Windows 8 to be useful .
- You can go to their official website (www.skype.com) and download the software available.
About ME - The latest version of Skype runs just fine on Windows XP.
At some point, I'm sure Microsoft will develop versions of Skype which are not compatible with XP, but the older versions will continue to work for quite a long time. The reason is that there are many versions of Skype out there, including embedded versions (in standalone phones, entertainment centres and what-have-you), and these must continue working even when the manufacturers have stopped providing upgrades, so unless Microsoft go out of their way to prevent the XP from running (which may land them in court), it will continue to run just fine.- Thanks. Please tell format for putting username for signing into skype's older version with microsoft account , as link for direct signing in with microsoft account is not available in old version ( 5.2 )
- The format is the usual: Skype name for username, skype password for password.
- What would be skype user name for microsoft account? Can you also confirm whether username is to put as live:username ( where username is microsoft hotmail username without domain name )
- No, that would be the Skype name, not email address or 'live' login. The Skype name is what you would 'dial' if you were calling someone on Skype.

- Skype is still supported for Windows XP and you can find bloat free version under the link below -If you would like to know old versions of any software besides Skype, then Oldapps.com site is helpful to you.
- Thanks. The old version does not have option to sign in with microsoft account and directly signing in with microsoft account fails in old version inspite of putting correct username and codeword
- Thanks. Please tell , 'bloat-free' implies not having to do the default process of choosing bing as default search engine at beginning of installation? Please note , oldapps discontinued older versions of skype
- Bloat free means no Ask or any other toolbars.Oldapps might had done this to prevent use of vulnerable versions of Skype.See -
Is an Old Version of Skype Unsafe?
Mar 09, 2017 Hello, I have got an old computer without SSE2 (Athlon XP1800). It was running Windows XP, but now it runs Windows 7 after an upgrade. I tried to install the newest version and some older versions of Skype. Anything after skype 7.0.85 did not install for various reasons. Older versions up to 5.6 did install, but I got that message 'can't connect'.
